It will guide you to reflect on why you teach, what type of students you want to produce, and ways to run your classroom that fit well with your personal teaching style…all within the context of planning for specific procedures and routines. • include classroom forms and sample versions of reproducibles

  • utilize nearly 200 photographs to illustrate organizational tips, room arrangement ideas, and instructional resources
  • expand on website ideas (approximately 70% of the book’s content is NOT available on the website)
  • cross-reference with the website, where you’ll find recommended resources and regularly updated supplements

NOTE: The Cornerstone is geared toward elementary teachers of grades K-6, but is frequently purchased by both early childhood educators and middle/high school teachers. The book is used by special educators, substitute teachers, and those working in classrooms across every continent. The vast majority of content is adaptable for a wide range of teaching situations. The Cornerstone is an expansion of the ideas presented on my website, and provides a tangible, more comprehensive resource for teachers to keep and reference in the classroom. Take a look at the Table of Contents to see what you’ll learn.

Here’s a sample called “How to Teach ANY Procedure”. In just this single chapter (15 pages!), you’ll learn:

-The importance of ongoing (distributed) procedure practice
-How to form precise expectations and figure out exactly what you want
-What not to do (how to phrase your expectations so kids will successfully meet them)
-Why you should be cautious about misusing the term ‘we’
-How to use a variety of signals to facilitate routines
-The art of replacing nagging and criticism with performance feedback
-The 8 steps for teaching ANY procedure you want kids to follow
-How to play the Procedure Review Game as a FUN reminder for kids
-The key to revising your criteria without confusing kids or seeming incompetent
-What to do when kids don’t meet your expectations (repeat the practice, not the command)
-The power of “Go back and try it again” (and how to get kids to do it without attitude!)
-Ways to accommodate special needs children
-How to avoid a slow descent into laziness and sloppily-done procedures
-Ideas for logical rewards and appropriate incentives that foster intrinsic motivation

Dear Angela,
First, I just wanted to say thank you so much for all of the help you have given me over the past two years. I found your website at the end of my first year of teaching. I have come back to your site time after time. I have also recommended your site to every teacher, aid, and student teacher that I meet.
I appreciate all of your hard work that you do. I just wanted to let you know that you are helping teachers everywhere. Keep up the great work!

P.S. Thanks for the great organization idea for reading… The three drawer system has made teaching and filing my reading so much better!

Ashlee, you’re so welcome! I love the drawer system for reading, too–having one drawer for each story in the basal makes it so much easier to keep up with all those worksheets and lesson resources. When you’re feeling rushed, you can just shove papers in the drawer and still be organized! :-)

I found your website last night and was very impressed, especially with organization. I would like to purchase your e-book, but only have a credit card. It would be weeks before I get the books from Barnes & Nobles and Amazon, and I really need the book now. What is the best and secure way of purchasing The Cornerstone with the credit card?

4 Angela Watson July 26, 2010 at 2:09 pm

Hi, Wanda! You can purchase through PayPal using a credit card. PayPal accepts all major credit cards. In addition, they protect and encrypt your credit card information so that no one (even sellers) can see it. Just follow the “Buy Now” link above–I’ll make sure your book ships the same day. :-)

Thank you Angela!

Is there any way this book will also be available for Barnes and Noble’s Nook?

7 Angela Watson September 21, 2010 at 4:29 pm

Yes! I’m currently having an eBook specialist convert the book into a Nook-compatible format, as well, and that should be finished this week. I can’t tell you how long it will take for Barnes and Nobles to accept and process the submission and make it available for sale. What you can do is purchase the eBook version here on the site (the link is on this page) and then when I receive the Nook-compatible file sometime this week, I’ll forward it along to you via email at no cost. :-)

Hi Angela,

I read with deep interest your “How to Teach ANY Procedure”. You gave the solutions and or ways that seemed workable to address the problems that we teachers face in clasrooms. Thus, I would like to read more of the topics that you got all lined up. Can you please let me know if I can purchase the book in Malaysia or Singapore?

Thank you

9 Angela Watson January 29, 2011 at 11:29 am

Hi, Mslaini! I’m so glad Chapter 9 was useful for you. Yes, international shipping is available via Priority International. Or, you can purchase the eBook and receive a digital download. Both options are available on this page. :-)

10 mslaini February 5, 2011 at 9:52 am

Greetings to you Angela from Malaysia,

To wait for the book to b shipped here would be an agony so I have decided to purchase the Ebook version.
I have just downloaded The Cornerstone eBook a short while ago and, God willing I am able to open the eBook without any hiccups, so far.

At this very moment, I had just finished browsing through the whole text … ha ha, too elated and excited to really read any topics now. Will do it later at night … and will revert to you.

You are an angel to have thought of all those solutions… I cant agree more with what you had said in your book:

“All glory, honor, and praise unto the Creator for constantly guiding and inspiring me.
He is the true Cornerstone, the foundation of everything I have accomplished, and the Author of all that is to come.

May the Creator continue to bless you with more and more brilliant ideas, all for a good cause.
Thank you

Hi, Mslaini, thank you so much for taking the time to write this. I appreciate your words of encouragement, and I’m glad you see my true heart and purpose in sharing ideas. Many blessings to you! :-)

Angela, I have tried to contact you previously concerning the password I need to receive the webinar at a discount price. For some reason I cannot find this password in the emails that I received from you after purchasing your ebook. I am very interested in viewing your webinar.

13 Angela Watson March 1, 2011 at 9:12 pm

Hey, Debbie! I emailed you the same day you contacted me. It must have gone in your spam folder. I just resent the email as a forward. At any rate, the discount code is on the Printables page here: Let me know if you have any problems or questions. And enjoy! :-)

Wow….I am currently pursuing a teaching degree and recently was employed with an after school program. This website and your book (once I order it) are genius! This needs to be a required reading for any teacher or student pursing teaching. I am excited to find this help at the perfect time. Thanks

19 Angela Watson January 12, 2012 at 12:25 pm

Thank you, Nikki! I’m happy to report that many colleges are now including The Cornerstone in their classroom management course required reading lists. :-)

20 Daphne September 26, 2012 at 11:28 am

Howdy….i believe I have read your entire website today and only wish I could purchase the webinar series right now.
However the ebook is in my price range. As I went to purchase it the entry paragraph says 9.99 for ebook
And the purchase cart says 14.99
“an ebook download is 9.99 and can be paid…….”
How ever this is not the case of the Cornerstone management book , just the other two publications.
I really desire this ebook but i am in a very tight financial situation….maybe all the ebooks should be 9.99 as stated?

21 Angela Watson September 27, 2012 at 8:22 pm

Hi, Daphne! I’m so glad you have enjoyed the site!

Thanks for letting me know about the inconsistencies with the pricing…I recently changed the formatting of the buttons and didn’t realize I’d put the other eBook price in one spot on this page. The Cornerstone is 500 pages, which is why it costs more. However, I will be happy to send you an ebook version for $9.99 since I made the mistake. I will send you an invoice via PayPal for $9.99, and after you send the payment, I’ll email you the book as an attachment. Let me know what version you want (PDF, ePUB, Kindle, etc.).

I bought your ebook with PayPal last night (Cornerstone) and I have been checking my email, ready to read it. Where is it? Payment already cleared. I can’t wait to read it!

24 Angela Watson March 5, 2015 at 11:10 am

Hi, Ashley! Thanks for your purchase. The email is sent automatically by eJunkie after payment. Check your junk/spam folder. If it’s not there, you can email me at Thank you!
